Going Abroad with a Credit Card

Using Credit Cards
Credit Cards Abroad

Travelling abroad is one of the best and exciting ways to explore new places, cultures, and traditions. If you are a travel aficionado, then credit cards are, probably, your unfailing companions. You perfectly know that it is not safe to carry much cash in your wallet, especially abroad. You can easily become a victim of robbery.

Using a credit card abroad is much more convenient and secure than using cash. You just need to have your plastic with you wherever you go to make any kind of purchases and use different services. Even in case your card is lost or stolen, you will just need to contact your credit card issuer and ask them to replace it.

These days credit card company offer a great variety of card deal for travel fans. If you just love to discover something new and you often visit foreign countries, then a frequent flyer card is exactly what you need. There is a wide range of mileage offers with different rewards programs. You can choose whether a bank issued mileage credit card, or an airline issued one according to your needs, enjoy your trip, and save money with such a plastic.

If you often go on business trips abroad, you can consider applying for a business credit card. Such offers come with very favorable terms and options for business people. Alongside with such features as rewards points for airfare, hotel stays, purchases, and travel related services, like travel insurance, lost luggage service, no currency exchange fee, and others, you get options that will be really useful for your business affairs.

MasterCard, Visa, and Discover credit cards are accepted all over the world by most retailers. You can go to China, Bulgaria, Egypt, Russia, or anywhere else and be sure that you will not have any problems using your plastic. Actually, you can even try using it in Antarctica. No wonder, if your credit card is accepted there. Though it might scare the penguins off.

Going on a far-distant trip you are to thoroughly prepare everything for your journey. Pack your suitcase; remember to take you passport, visa, and other important papers. But what is not less essential is to take care about your credit card. And do not think I am talking just about taking it with you. What else?

First, check the availability of the travel insurance option on your credit card. It is very important. The credit card insurance will cover all unpredictable expenses that have to do with credit card loss, theft, rented car damage, travel accidents, and some other cases.

Pay attention to currency exchange fee. It will be great if your card offer comes with none. Well, actually, you will not to exchange your money if your credit card is with you. But still, just in case you need some cash, you are to know what will be the charge for exchange.

Your pre-departure planning should also include checking your credit card balance, credit limit, and expiration date. Get 2 copies with your credit card number, an emergency phone number of your credit card issuer. Take one with you; leave the other one with your friend. Keep these numbers at a safe place, do not put it in your suitcase or wallet. Take with you only the documents that are necessary for your trip.

And remember to notify your creditor about the trip before you leave. This way you can prevent flagging your account for atypical credit card activity.

Got it all done? Then you can safely leave for your final destination. And have a nice trip!

Though it's prety clear from my nick, I'm crazy about travelling. I've been to 7 countries (Italy, Spain, Holland, Thailand, Australia, Chile, Argentina) I'm planning to go on a world tour some day. There's nothing more exciting than seeing new places, new people... When I turn in another country my mind just bursts from new impressoins! but I stay cool and reasonable when it comes to money. that's why i thoroughly get ready for my trips. And do some credit card pretravelling preparations. But will keep in mind some new points from your article.
